The Super Girl Pro Series

The Super Girl Pro Series is a large-scale all-women's action sports, esports, and lifestyle series and was first established in 2007. The goal of this San Diego based event is to celebrate female strength and empowerment while providing a platform for young women to pursue and perform in social, athletic, cultural, educational, business and entertainment opportunities, where they are often underrepresented.

This three-day event included impressive surfing from top female surfers, a festival village to explore with vendors including yours truly, and fun activities with live music performances from The Expendables, Smash Mouth, Hoobastank, and the Spin Doctors.

The oceanside surf competition was jam-packed for all attendees with the opportunity to attend an all-female DJ contest, women’s esports video game competitions, a female leadership panel discussion, fitness classes, dance classes, yoga instruction, autographs from the pros, giveaways, face painting and hair styling, and a delicious food scene including SAMBAZON's very own Açaí booth.

Social Responsibility with Super Girl Pro

This event partners with several socially responsible organizations to bring a larger meaning to the weekend.

Boarding for Breast Cancer is a youth-focused breast cancer education and prevention foundation that promotes early detection and a healthy, active lifestyle to help prevent breast cancer.

Surfrider Foundation also partners with the Super Girl Pro to focus on the mitigation of plastics in our oceans, beaches, and waterways.

Last but not least, this event aligns with the Stopbullying.gov campaign aims to combat bias and bullying by stopping the escalation of hate in schools across the country.

Moore Aloha with Olympic Gold Medalist Carissa Moore

The 15th annual Nissan Super Girl Surf Pro started with a bang with Olympic Gold Medalist Carissa Moore's "Moore Aloha" Mentorship Program. 24 young girls spent an unforgettable day with Carissa surfing, building beautiful flower leis, and even enjoying a little hula dancing. We were excited to start their morning off on the right foot with a delicious bowl of Açaí to fuel a powerful surf session.

Carissa shared that "We hope to encourage young females through events like these to be fearless, live authentically, and lead with Aloha... We took a dive into self-love, mindfulness, nurturing kindness, friendship, and learning how to use our girl power to give back and take care of the ocean we love...

"Inspired by this group of young women and excited to see how they will use their Aloha superpowers to be a beacon of light and hope as they continue to move through life," Carissa concluded. Check out her video of this inspiring surfer girl pro event here.

Face Painting and Purple Hair

On Saturday, the SAMBAZON team held a special event from 12-2 PM next to our Açaí tent with purple hair dye and face painting for anyone who wanted to stop by the share a purple smile with us. If you happened to get any photos of your painted foxes, turtles, dolphins, butterflies, or fun purple hair, share them with us on social @SAMBAZON for the chance to be featured on our Instagram.

Afterward, many enjoyed the purple powers of our Ready to Eat Açaí Bowl in the festival village, including our Amazon Superberry, Berry Bliss, and Peanut Butter flavors. We loved sharing the good vibes with all of the families that stopped by to say hi and we hope to see you again next year!

What is a Super Girl?

You may be asking yourself, what is a super girl? This term is a universal symbol of feminine strength and leadership, shown through the young girls of today in sports, entertainment, and culture. Super Girls are are surfing women that are active, confident, independent, and socially aware, and they spread their passion for friends, community, and giving back. At SAMBAZON, we love supporting the empowerment of young females in sports to show what they're truly made of.

Winner Winner, Açaí Dinner...?

A big congrats to this year's Super Girl Surf Pro winner 17-year-old Sawyer Lindbladd, who was crowned the youngest champion of this series in her first-ever win. The Finals Day concluded with Lindbladd going head to head with runner-up and defending champion Caroline Marks at Oceanside Pier, with standout Semifinal appearances by Alyssa Spencer and Bella Kenworthy.

After surfing her final wave, Lindbladd expressed gratitude to the waves and her competitor in an interview with the WSL: "It feels so good to finally win again. I've gotten so many second-place finishes recently and I felt like I knew in that Final that it was just my time. That was the time I was going to win and I'm so grateful for those waves coming in.

"I knew (Caroline Marks) would come back and that the combo wouldn't last very long, she's such a great surfer and she's always inspired me so that was special," said Lindblad. "This brings my confidence up and I'm really looking forward to Portugal and the rest of the (Challenger Series) events."
