One Step Closer To Zero Waste: Join the Campaign

Did you know that at least 8 million tons of plastic ends up in our oceans every year (International Union for Conservation of Nature)? Or that 90 percent of sea birds have eaten plastic (Study by researchers from Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization)?

Everyday, businesses have the opportunity to be a force for good and contribute to a thriving people and planet. Committing to make progress on sustainable packaging solutions is one small step for brands, but a massive leap in the right direction to address the many climate challenges we now face.

ONE STEP CLOSER TO ZERO WASTE PACKAGING COLLABORATIVE

One Step Closer was founded with the goal to facilitate partnership between value-aligned CEOs and industry leaders, helping them to work together to address some of the greatest challenges facing food, agriculture and our planet.

We are proud to be a member of the One Step Closer (OSC) Packaging Collaborative, a group of over 40 brands that come together in the name of steering the natural products industry towards leading-edge solutions in environmentally friendly and sustainable packaging solutions. This year, we are standing with OSC and pledging to use our business for good and taking steps in the right direction for our sake, your sake, and the planet’s sake.

ONE STEP CLOSER TO ZERO WASTE PACKAGING is a campaign for action and inspiration to reduce and/or eliminate single use plastics in our products, packaging, and personal lives. It is clear that we need to raise awareness on the topic, and find ways to mobilize both industry stakeholders and consumers to join forces to combat plastic waste – in fact, in a study done by McKinsey, 60-70% of consumers would pay a premium for sustainable packaging and it’s estimated that a more circular economy could generate $4.5B in economic growth – meaning we have a unique opportunity to stimulate economic growth, turn waste into wealth, and differentiate our brands through the lens of sustainability.

OUR PACKAGING FOOTPRINT

When choosing packaging for its products, SAMBAZON takes into consideration contributors such as food safety, food waste, shipping weight, energy usage, reducing waste mass, and production efficiency. SAMBAZON realizes that we need to improve to reduce our impact on plastic pollution. This is why we have dedicated a team and invested resources to test new materials and technologies that can be composted and/or recyclable.

Packaging Commitment: SAMBAZON is committed to achieving 100% plant-based and post-consumer recycled packaging by 2025.

One way we are already tackling this issue is with our Ready to Eat (RTE) Bowl packaging. SAMBAZON RTE Açaí Bowls are made from 100% plant fiber from recycled paper sourced locally and made in the USA. The bowls are PFAS free. The film on the bowls is also 100% plant-based. The sleeve is FSC certified, harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable. The bowl and sleeve are recyclable. All inks used on the RTE Bowl packaging are VOC-free.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

Let’s clean our oceans, let's save our wildlife, let’s reduce our waste and let’s do this together by continuing to get one step closer to zero waste packaging. Look for the One Step Closer badge from your other favorite brands, and join the movement towards zero waste living (your planet will thank you). Here are some individual calls to action that you can implement in your own life:
